Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka has ed Bundesliga side Augsburg for the remainder of the season.

Onyeka has made 78 appearances for the Bees since his arrival from Midtjylland in July 2021.

Head coach Thomas Frank said: "Frank wants to play week in, week out as a starter; this is a good opportunity for him to do that.

"We have a lot of young midfielders who also need minutes, so this is a good loan for Frank and the club."

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder and Planet Premier League pundit Cesc Fabregas believes the transfer window should close before the season begins.

Brentford midfielder Myles Peart-Harris has ed Championship side Swansea City on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth, helping them to gain promotion to the Championship in his 12 appearances with two goals.

Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: "Having had two good loans in League One, the next step for Myles is regular football in the Championship.

"We felt that he wouldn't get the regular minutes he needs with us to continue his development, so we wish him well and look forward to watching him play at Swansea."

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is in talks about ing Bundesliga club Augsburg on a season-long loan.

The Nigeria international, 26, has been frustrated with his fringe role in west London and is keen to earn more minutes away from the club on loan.

But Brentford also still regard Onyeka highly amid competition in their midfield and a loan move is increasingly becoming an option.

Augsburg seem the most viable option after Valencia fell away when closing in on a move for Aston Villa's Enzo Barrenechea instead.

Brentford have agreed a fee with Southampton for teenage defender Jayden Meghoma.

The 18-year-old England youth international has already completed a medical in west London ahead of a move on a four-year deal.

Meghoma is a highly regarded young talent but had just one year left on his deal at St Mary's before agreeing on a move.

He has made made four senior appearances in the cup competitions at Saints but is yet to play an English league match.

Brentford, meanwhile, have selection problems at full-back with Scotland international Aaron Hickey ruled out for most of the season with a hamstring injury and Rico Henry having yet made his comeback from a serious knee injury.

We asked for your views on Brentford's transfer window so far, and what needs to be done on transfer deadline day.

Bob: Brentford's recruitment is shrewd and planned well ahead. I'm happy with the way things are. Toney perhaps to go for £50m to recoup our outlay this month but, overall, well played Bees.

Will: We really need to strengthen or add more depth at winger and full-back. I feel like those should be the priorities now coming in. We need to sell Toney, his head is elsewhere already it seems and we can't afford him going on a free transfer next year.

Trevor: Sadly we have done nothing about cover for our full-backs. The setback to Aaron Hickey just reinforces the need, even if it is only one player and possibly on a loan.

Ian: With the Aaron Hickey setback, I believe Brentford need to recruit, if possible, a specialist full-back. I know that anything can happen in football but I expect there to be activity at the Gtech. Last season, Brentford had Sergio Reguilon on loan from Spurs from January. Can a season-long loan be arranged for Sergio this time round?

Barry: Bees definitely need an experienced creative midfielder to boost squad. We now have plenty of wingers, but who is serving them?

BBC Sport's chief football news reporter Simon Stone has been speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast about Ivan Toney's situation on transfer deadline day.

"Ivan Toney will [move this window], but nobody knows, which I think is the interesting thing about a lot of potential deals.

"The interesting thing for him is that he was part of the England squad at the Euros and didn't play as much as he would have liked.

"He was not in the [England] squad on Thursday, but that is presumably a part of the legacy that he’s not played for Brentford.

"He has to work out whether, in the prime of his career, he wants to go to Saudi Arabia, which would maybe take him out of England picture at a time when there's a new coach wanting to put his own stamp on things, or whether he stays in the Premier League. If so, does he stay at Brentford and would Brentford want him to stay as well?

"It is fascinating. He is one of a number of players we don't know what is going to happen with."

When does the window close?

The transfer window will close at 23:00 BST on Friday, 30 August for the Premier League, English Football League and Scotland.

The date was brought forward by the domestic leagues to align with European leagues.

Across Europe, the Bundesliga window will close at 19:00, Ligue 1 at 22:00, La Liga at 22:59 and Serie A at 23:00, but the Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open until 7 September.

Can a Premier League player signed on deadline day play this weekend?

Under league rules, new gs are eligible for the next Premier League game if the club submit the required documents by midday on the last working day before that match.

So any player signed after 12:00 on deadline day would be unable to play in this round of Premier League fixtures.

When does the January transfer window open?

Clubs will be able to make transfers again from Wednesday, 1 January until Monday, 3 February at 23:00 GMT. This is the same in , Italy, Spain and .

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been speaking to the media before Saturday's Premier League game against Southampton (kick-off 15:00 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

• Frank confirmed that Ivan Toney, who has been linked with a move away from the club, will not play on Saturday, adding: "Ivan is training well and in good spirits. I would be happy to have more questions on Toney next time."

• On Aaron Hickey, who has been ruled out for the majority of the season with injury: "I feel for him, first and foremost, he is a young man and player. He has a great future ahead and been unlucky with injuries. A setback we need to overcome and will do everything to help and him. I desperately wanted him to play for us because he is a very good played. Now we need to find other solutions."

• He added: "It is tough, very tough, but that is life and you have setbacks. Sometimes more often than you would like and you have to do everything you can to get through it."

• Frank said "general happiness will be the feeling flowing from my body" when the transfer window closes on Friday, but accepted it is "part of football".

• On if he is expecting anymore business before the deadline: "We are always looking. If we can find something that can improve the squad in quality and that fits the financial boxes we have, then we could potentially do something. We have had a very good window with four very good gs. Four gs that are for now and the future."

• He said the side are "not fully firing yet", adding: "We played three average-plus games. Definitely still players growing into it. We still have some players coming back, some new gs, so I'm still understanding how I will put the best squad out there, how I will use new gs."

• On facing Southampton: "We are well aware of what they are capable of. I think they will put up a big challenge for us. We need to hit a top performance with high tempo and high intensity. I'm backing us. If we hit highest level, I back us to win."

• On home : "The Gtech needs to be a fortress. When we are on it and the fans are on it it is a very difficult place to play. I always say that it is a team effort. All of us together need to find that high level of performance."

Brentford defender Aaron Hickey is set to miss the majority of the 2024-25 season with a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old suffered a setback during a training session last week and has undergone surgery.

Bees' head physio Nick Stubbings said: "The procedure involved the removal of the previous repair sutures and making a new tendon repair.

"Now we aim to start afresh and help Aaron return to his previous level of health and performance."

The Scotland international hasn't featured for Thomas Frank's side since October 2023 in a Premier League match against Chelsea.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank on the Carabao Cup win over Colchester United: "We will give it a go [winning the competition]. We definitely want to go on a cup run but who knows whether that will happen. In the last 10 years it is only the big boys that have won the League Cup so it is really difficult.

"But it is always about finding a balance between giving players minutes and having an opportunity to play, with being strong to go on the cup-run."

On goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson's performance: "He did very well. What an experience for him. Especially because early doors you have a big scare because of the physicality in aerial duals. I thought he adjusted well and then dominated his box. He made a winning save on the penalty so a fantastic debut!"

The draw has been made for the Carabao Cup third round, with 17 Premier League clubs having made it through or entering at this stage.

There are three all-Premier League fixtures, including holders Liverpool hosting West Ham in a repeat of last season's quarter-final.

Ties will be played in the weeks commencing 16 September and 23 September.

Brentford rode their luck at both ends of the pitch to reach the third round of the EFL Cup at League Two Colchester’s expense.

At the end of a disted, uneventful first-half at the Colchester Community Stadium, Keane Lewis-Potter slotted the Bees ahead after Aaron Donnelly had gone to ground under Kevin Schade's challenge.

Colchester's defenders all looked up, expecting the referee to award the home side a free-kick, but Paul Howard kept his whistle from his lips as Lewis-Potter celebrated - looking slightly sheepish - with team-mate Fabio Carvalho.

Having taken the lead in controversial fashion, the Bees failed to add to their advantage in the second half and almost paid the price when Colchester were awarded a late penalty for Frank Onyeka's foul on Mandela Egbo.

An equaliser would have sent the tie to penalties, but Jack Payne's low effort was saved by goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson as Thomas Frank's team held on.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who is yet to play for the Bees this season, was again left out of the matchday squad by Frank. The 28-year-old striker has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, while Chelsea are also reported to be keen on securing the frontman's signature before the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank says he is "very excited" to have secured the g of Gustavo Nunes from Brazilian top-flight side Gremio.

The 18-year-old forward has ed the Bees on a six-year-deal, with the option to extend for a further two years.

"I am very excited that we have managed to sign Gustavo," Frank said. "It is another good g; we have fought with other clubs.

"He is a winger who can go past players one-on-one. He is direct and he can create.

"Gustavo has a lot of potential and of course we need to maximise that in every aspect. He needs time to settle, but this is a very exciting g."

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Wednesday at the conclusion of the second-round tie between Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

The seven English clubs involved in European competitions this season, including holders Liverpool, will enter at the third-round stage.

Ties will take place on weeks commencing 16 and 23 September.

Because there are rounds of Champions League and Europa League fixtures also scheduled for those two midweeks, the six clubs involved in those competitions - Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester United - will be kept apart to ensure they can fulfil their Carabao Cup tie in the alternate midweek to their European fixture.

Those six clubs will take part in a pre-draw before Forest v Newcastle to decide if they will be at home or away in the third round, with a main draw determining the 16 ties later in the evening.

Should Chelsea progress to the next phase of the Conference League, they will not be in action in that competition again until the start of October.
