1992: Inside the Ajax football academy

Standing Room Only's Simon O'Brien travelled to Amsterdam for a first-hand look at Ajax's innovative youth policy.

With the Dutch footballing giants riding high in European competition, he spoke to Ajax academy graduate Dennis Bergkamp and technical director Louis van Gaal (billed here as Lou Van Hal).

He also got the views of Bobby Robson, manager of rivals PSV Eindhoven, on whether there were any lessons for British clubs.

Ajax went on to win the 1992 UEFA Cup, and three years later claimed their fourth European Cup title.

First broadcast on 13 April 1992
