1966: Pickles the dog finds the World Cup trophy

On 27 March 1966, Pickles the dog and his owner David Corbett found the missing World Cup wrapped in newspaper near their home. The next day, they were interviewed by BBC News on how they located it.

The Jules Rimet trophy had been stolen a week earlier, just four months before the tournament kicked off in England. When the English team were eventually successful in winning the 1966 World Cup, Pickles was invited to the celebration banquet as a reward.

Originally broadcast 28th March 1966.
