1995: Dark cyber future predicted for 2025
Tomorrow's World, the BBC's programme about science and technology trends, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 1995 by looking forward another 30 years to the year 2025.
In the mid-1990s, as the internet was becoming increasingly mainstream, people were more aware of its benefits and possible dangers.
Looking back to the future, the programme predicted a world where computer viruses raged out of control and cyber-terrorists fought for access to something now called the Supernet.
According to the 2025 version of Dr Stephen Hawking, "At the moment we still have control, but that may not always be the case."
Originally broadcast on 7th July 1995.
