Another desperately disappointing batting performance from Somerset.

The fact that Jack Leach finished top scorer with 30 says it all, even if the atmospheric conditions could hardly have been more bowler-friendly.

The wickets of Ben McKinney and Emilio Gay in the 20 minutes or so which Durham had to bat before lunch will have given the visitors just a slender shaft of hope.

But Durham are effectively 123-2, which on this pitch, in these conditions, is a commanding position.

Worcestershire’s hopes of securing their first Championship win against Warwickshire for 25 years suffered a blow in the morning session as they endured a batting collapse induced by Chris Woakes and Chris Rushworth.

The pair have bowled beautifully in their first games of the season after recovering from injuries, taking advantage of a favourable pitch and cloudy conditions overhead.

The home side looked steady enough even after the fall of the first wicket, Jake Libby for 45, But after Kiwi Henry Nicholls became Woakes' second victim the wickets tumbled, four falling for eight runs.

Ethan Brookes and Kashif Ali are working hard to steady the ship surviving 13 overs to lunch but each had a life as Alex Davies and Beau Webster put down chances.

Ryan Higgins completed his first Middlesex five-for on an evenly-fought morning under cloudy skies in Cardiff.

Resuming on 334-7, Glamorgan managed a third batting point as Andy Gorvin ran three boundaries down to third man before being bowled by Ryan Higgins for 17.

Middlesex missed out on the third bowling point but Dane Paterson switched ends to trap Chris Cooke lbw for a solid 47, and Higgins claimed his fifth when James Harris was lbw for 12.

With six overs left and the ball moving, the visitors lost Sam Robson caught at slip for six off Timm van der Gugten to leave them with hard work ahead.

A bit of international cricket news for you.....former Glamorgan batter Shubman Gill has been named as the new captain of India's Test side ahead of their tour to England, which begins on 20 June.

There are a few other names in there with county experience, including ex-Surrey batter Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair, who had a couple of spells with Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire grind on. Saif Zaib will rightly be the star after his epic 159 but hats off too to Lewis McManus (43), Calvin Harrison and Liam Guthrie.

The last two have so far added 48 for the ninth wicket to increase Gloucestershire's pain who've taken only two wickets this morning.

A fifth batting point will be top of the to-do list post lunch for the home side.

Worcestershire limped to lunch, battered and bruised from a working over from Chris Woakes and Chris Rushworth.

After Jake Libby and Gareth Roderick's super effort last night to get them to 53-0, they had no answer in cloudier conditions to the two Chrises who toyed with them mercilessly with their swing and seam.

They took the five wickets between them (Rushworth 3-26 and Woakes 2-23) and will come out refreshed after lunch.

Kashif Ali and Ethan Brookes got the the interval against the rest of the Bears attack in one piece but they'd take getting first-innings parity now.

That might still take some getting though.

A session which went relentlessly Leicestershire's way and featuring two very good innings from Rehan Ahmed (84) and Lewis Hill (79).

Their partnership of 165 for the third wicket has put the hosts in a commanding position trailing by 17 runs with eight wickets still standing.

Lancashire have looked out of ideas for a while as they search a first win of the campaign and this one is not likely to offer solutions at the moment.

An excellent morning for Sussex who have added 118 without loss on a pitch that yesterday saw 15 wickets fall.

John Simpson has again led from the front and must be one of the shrewdest gs Sussex have ever made, averaging almost 80 this season.

Fyn Hudson Prentice has provided excellent completing his first half century of the season but was given a life when dropped at slip when he was on 51.

Hampshire may be regretting their decision to bat first yesterday and will be hoping the new ball due in five overs brings rewards.

Middlesex lose an early wicket in Cardiff as Sam Robson edges Timm van der Gugten to second slip and is caught by Sam Northeast for six.

But that is the only damage in a six-over mini-session for the visitors after Ryan Higgins' 5-59 helped finally bowl out Glamorgan for 383.

They added 49 to their overnight score, with Chris Cooke falling three runs short of 50 when he was lbw to Dane Paterson.

Glamorgan have Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann in their team for this game and it will be interesting to see him in action later.

Durham still very much on top, but they will cross with losing two wickets in the five overs faced before lunch.

Ben McKinney and Emilio Gay went in the space of three balls from Matt Henry who's taken his tally against Durham to an incredible 18 wickets in two games.

He could yet have a big say in the size of the target Somerset are ultimately set.

Mitch Killeen was the star of the show this morning as Somerset subsided from 63-3 to 172 all out.

The 20-year-old bagged five wickets on his Championship debut with a stunning performance that he'll rightly forever.

It might yet get even better.

Total dominance of this first session from Sussex who have taken a hold of his contest through John Simpson (70) and Fynn Hudson-Prentice (62) in complete control.

Resuming on 110-5 Sussex their 145-run partnership has more than doubled the total with few alarms and they go in for a feed with a 74 run lead.

It has been a slog for the Hampshire bowlers with John Turner's opening day 3-42 still standing as the best in show and more will be needed after the break if Sussex are not to get too far off the leash to be reined back.

A couple of wickets late in the session are unlikely to spread much joy in the Kent dressing room at the County Ground.

Derbyshire added 131 during the morning, with Australian Caleb Jewell still there on 210 not out - just 18 short of a career-best.

He put on 176 with Wayne Madsen, who fell to Jack leaning for exactly 100, with Matt Parkinson bowling Brooke Guest for three shortly afterwards.

A declaration at this stage is perhaps unlikely, but Madsen will now be 'running the numbers' through his mind ahead of the afternoon.

Surrey reach 200 just before the interval at The Oval as Sam Curran pushes a single off Noah Thain to mid-wicket.

It has been an enthralling morning's action with Essex fighting back well, picking up four wickets after Surrey resumed on 94-3.

Three or them were taken by Kasun Rajitha, who has figures of 4-54, but the champions have been revived by an unbroken stand of 59 between Curran (55 not out) and Jordan Clark (34).

If these two can stay together for a decent period after lunch, Surrey could yet achieve a healthy first-innings lead.

Notts will be the happier of the two sides as they leave the field after the first session having taken five wickets at a cost of 109 runs.

Dawid Malan's rapid fire 64 may split opinion given it was more of a T20 innings than County Championship, but in matching Joe Clarke's 64 from Notts' first innings that alone should ensure that the finger of blame points elsewhere.

Notts have bowled well with Jack White, Harry Duke and George Hill all getting excellent deliveries (the last two were virtually unplayable).

Had the rest batted around Malan with greater purpose Yorks could be in a far better position.

Jordan Clark stands tall and flays Noah Thain through the covers for four as he and Sam Curran achieve a half-century stand from just 48 balls.

Clarks has 31 not out, made at a run a ball. He can be a dangerous customer if he's in the mood.

Relief for Durham skipper Alex Lees.

He avoids a king pair (having got a first baller in the first innings) in the opening over from Matt Henry.

After five dots he steers Henry down past the slips to the fence to get going in the match with a four.

Lee's partner Ben McKinney then plays out a maiden from Josh Davey.
