How much are babies aware of while inside the womb?
Linda listens to her baby's heartbeat and talks to her friends about whether babies in bumps can react to temperature or sound.
Nurse:
He’s got a nice strong heartbeat.
Linda:
It's like a nightclub in there! I'm freaking out to be honest, you're like a whole little person and I’ve got to look after you, forever. It’s a lot to get my head around, you're giving me serious indigestion as well.
Nurse:
Lively today! And how are you feeling?
Linda:
Yeah, fine thanks.
Nurse:
Good. 28 weeks! He’ll be here before you know it.
Desiree:
That is never his foot. Ooft, gross.
Chantelle:
It’s not gross! It’s lovely.
Desiree:
You should not be able to see it.
Linda:
I like it when he moves about. You having a little stretch?
Desiree:
Apparently they move more when it’s cold out.
Chantelle:
What, even if you’re inside? And you’ve got the central heating on?
Desiree:
They just know.
Linda:
Yeah he does a little cartwheel every time I open the fridge. Don’t you?
Chantelle:
Does he?
Linda:
Course not. Got nothing to do with the temperature, Desiree’s talking shite again.
Chantelle:
Ooh! Talking of talking. Brought something to read to him. "Everything we are and everything in the…"
Linda:
You don’t have to shout Telle, he’s right there.
Chantelle:
What, just normal volume?
Desiree:
He’s not going to understand it anyway is he?
Chantelle:
They soak up the feeling though, don’t they?
Linda:
They can hear voices and stuff, like he can recognise mine, think it’s comforting.
Desiree:
Very comforting, someone screaming at you bout the universe.
Linda:
Carry on.
Chantelle:
"Everything we are and everything around us originated from stardust. It directly connects us to the universe. Never forget we are all of us, made of stars".
Linda:
He loved that, thank you.
Desiree:
Don’t have to tell me I’m a star, course I am, look at me. Right, let’s play him a tune.
