Sponges come in different shapes and sizes and they're great for babies to explore. Your baby will squash and chew the sponge - a mini workout for their arm and mouth muscles!
Pretend to wash your baby's face, arms and feet with the sponge, naming the parts of their body as you play. You could even make up a song. Your baby loves the sound of your voice and it helps them make the connection between the words you sing and the parts of their body.
Try letting your baby play with a sponge in water - they'll discover that squeezing the sponge releases the water. Talk to your baby as they play, say the word "sponge" and add words like "squishy"and "splashy". Show your baby that words can be fun.
You don’t need to run a bath to have a fun with a sponge.
For your baby, playing with a sponge is like going to the gym. It works loads of their muscles. But how?
