Northern Ireland 1-6 Republic of Ireland

That is all from us, as the Republic of Ireland claim a convincing 6-1 victory against Northern Ireland at Windsor Park.

That was the Republic's sixth win from six games in the Women's Nations League as they now move to League A.

It is also set to be Eileen Gleeson's last game in charge with the Republic set to confirm their new permanent manager in the coming weeks.

For Northern Ireland, it was a disappointing night for Tanya Oxtoby's side and they will now face a relegation play-off which will determine whether they will play in League B or C of the next edition of the Nations League.

That game will take place in February.

Marissa Callaghan speaking after the game: "We are gutted with the score line but the thing for us is, we are at the start of our journey and we must take the positives from this.

"Things are starting to click, I think we saw glimpses of that tonight but when you make mistakes against the top teams, you get punished."

Northern Ireland's most capped player on co-commentary

Gail Redmond has said before about finding a more settled team.

Tanya Oxtoby has experimented a lot in of team selection and formations. I think there's a better understanding of what she is looking for and she has got a better understanding of the players she has worked with so far.

She can take that into the games and hopefully that will be more positive.

  4. 'Class act McCabe'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2023

FT: Northern Ireland 1-6 Republic of Ireland

    Ashley Hutton
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC NI Two

That's why she is one of the best players in the world, that's why she was nominated for a Ballon d'Or and that's Katie McCabe, she's a class act.

  5. 'Republic are ahead of us in their development' - Oxtobypublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2023

FT: Northern Ireland 1-6 Republic of Ireland

Tanya Oxtoby speaking after the game: "I think when you play a team like the Republic, you see the quality they have. When you make mistakes like we did, you get punished.

"The players are really disappointed but it is a learning opportunity .

"The goals before half-time were a real sucker punch. We tried to do the right things, but we started the second half slow and we never recovered.

"The Republic are two or three years ahead of us in of development, our players want to be there."

  6. 'NI were more positive in of possession'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2023

FT: Northern Ireland 1-6 Republic of Ireland

    Julie Nelson
Northern Ireland's most capped player on co-commentary

Northern Ireland were more positive in of possession from the first game was in the Aviva and that's the real big game experience that we need to build on.

Tanya Oxtoby said that was part of the experience tonight, bringing the game here because if you want to play in another major tournament, you need to be use to playing in these big game occasions.

Obviously the Republic of Ireland were clinical all night, it seemed to be every chance went in.

From a Northern Ireland perspective, the coaching staff have their homework to do as we are now conceding too many goals from set-plays and from crosses.

It was the same away from home so I think we miss the likes of Rachel Furness from the corners even the person beside me, Julie Nelson.

We lack a bit of height in those positions and if it's going to be one of our pitfalls, then we need to address that.
