We expected fireworks in Sheffield and the two British rivals delivered.
Wood retains the WBA featherweight title in stunning fashion but it's heartbreak for Warrington.
Earlier in the night, Terri Harper fought to a majority draw with Cecilia Braekhus, meaning she retains her WBA light-middleweight title but the WBO strap remains vacant.

Leigh Wood speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after his stoppage win over Josh Warrington: "I fight until the end, I've not got a quit in me. I knew he'd get sloppy at times and I made him pay.
"I had to give rounds away, he's a great champion and he doesn't quit. I had to dig in and dig deep and I did but I knew my power would get to him.
"It's about staying calm and composed. I got the job done.
"Featherweight is done now. We'll sit down and assess the situation to see what's next."

Eddie Hearn speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after Leigh Wood's stoppage win over Josh Warrington: "I had it 5-2 to Warrington. I said to Tony Bellew that I thought Leigh was done. He looked almost like he was sulking. He know Warrington's rough. It looked like it was a man saying he's done at featherweight. I thought he was a round away from losing. The referee made the right choice. He stumbled back to his corner and he wouldn't turn around. It was a thriller. Probably from the third round, I thought Warrington was going to win this fight by stoppage.
"Josh switched off for a second and it was goodnight Vienna. Josh was desperate to carry on and he was trying to compose himself. He didn't have his senses to carry on. The ref made the right decision, what a thriller."

It's just the second time Josh Warrington has be stopped in a fight - he was also beaten by TKO against Mauricio Lara in 2021.
This will be a tough one to swallow for the Yorkshireman. He was in control but maybe he just got a bit to reckless?
There were definitely mixed emotions in his post-fight speech, he mentioned potentially running it back but also thanked his fans in case it's the last time they see him in a ring.
I, for one, would love to see them run it back but Wood, as Eddie Hearn said, is likely to go on to other challenges now.

Josh Warrington speaking to DAZN: "I switched off for a split second.
"I've been out of the ring for 10 months, I felt at times I was really coming into it. He caught me with a good shot, I felt good, I listened to the count six, seven, eight and then he [the referee] waves off the fight.
"I'm disappointed, I feel let down. I don't feel he's done me justice. The stoppage is what it is on the record.
"I'm grateful for everyone that has turned out tonight. They've ed me for 14 years and ed me through thick and thin. I hope it isn't the last one but if it is then thank you.
"Ideally, I'd like to run it back. I felt like I was cruising and at times I was a little rusty but it was a good fight.
"Kudos to Leigh as a fighter and a character. He's a credit to his ers and that's how boxing should be. Sometimes people need to throw tables and chairs [to promote a fight] but we've gone about it differently. I hope he gets his wish and hopefully we can run it back."

I had Josh well ahead. I said to Tony Bellew that I thought Leigh was done. This man is incredible. It shows that if you stick at it then anything is possible. For years, he's been on at me about a fight at the City Ground.
"He's done at featherweight, that was his last fight. Look at his last fights, it's an incredible run."

It was the power that Wood showed in spades in round seven. It was a brutal, stunning end to a fight between two rivals who had shown utmost respect to each other in the build-up, and did British boxing proud with an engrossing match.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says "that is his [Leigh's] last fight at featherweight" and says they will head to Nottingham Forest's City Ground next summer.
A big pop from at least half of the crowd at the prospect of a fight at Nottingham Forest's ground.

On his gameplan: "I knew the further fight went on, the sloppier he gets. I didn't stick to the game plan well, I got disorientated after getting hit in the back of my head."
