In the 1980s, rugby enjoyed a golden era in Romania thanks to the of the notorious Communist dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu. A team consisting mainly of army and police officers enjoyed a string of famous victories until the overthrow of the regime in 1989 put their lives in danger.
