We're so excited that Inside No. 9's back for a fifth series that we invited creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith to host their very own podcast Inside Inside No. 9.

the pair directly after each episode to hear exclusive insights into that week's storyline, with special guests and shocking secrets...

Here's what we've learned about the new season so far:

Love's Great Adventure

A twist on a traditional Christmas, Love's Great Adventure follows Trevor (Pemberton) and Julia (played by Debbie Rush) whose family are struggling to afford presents. The advent calendar doors keep opening but will they be able to celebrate on Christmas Day?

On the Inside Inside No.9 podcast Reece and Steve revealed:

  • The episode marked a completely new approach for Inside No.9.
  • Steve was inspired by his time on Benidorm. Playing Mick Garvey made him think more about building a family.
  • The original title to the episode was "Plodding On".

Death Be Not Proud

When Beattie (Jenna Coleman) and Sam (Kadiff Kirwan) finally take their first step onto the property, they find they've taken on a lot more than they can chew; a flat that lives and breathes its dark and sinister past. Death Be Not Proud sees crossovers a plenty and tonnes of Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed...

Where's the hare? It's over there!

Here's what we found out in this week's episode of Inside Inside No.9:

  • Maureen, David, Mr Jelly... Episode 2 is a crossover between Inside No.9 and Reece & Steve's much-loved Psychoville series.
  • Reece learned the dance moves to Soulja Boy's 'Crank That (Soulja Boy)' while on crutches, like Maureen!
  • The title is a nod to Psychoville, referencing a quote from John Donne spoken by David at the end of the episode.
  • The use of music in this episode has strong links to philosophy with nods to Leopold, Loeb and 'The Superman Song', and Soulja Boy to Nietzche.

The Referee's A...

What a start to Season 5! The Referee's A... sees Reece and Steve play a linesman and fourth official officiating a crunch match between United and Rovers, which descends into farce in the final game of the season. Set entirely inside the referees' changing room, the episode guest stars David Morrissey, Ralf Little and Steve Speirs.

Did you spot this week's hare?

What we learnt in this week's episode:

  • Ralf Little (Phil) had a homecoming, as it was filmed on the same set as the Royle Family (where he played Antony).
  • Ralf used to be semi-professional footballer, he hung up his boots and picked up a flag to play a linesman in this episode.
  • The whole crew were roped in to play the terrace crowds, walking past the changing rooms, chanting to create the effect of a busy ground.
  • The Referee's A... referenced the infamous "Battle of the Buffet" incident - a pizza-fuelled tunnel bust-up between Manchester United and Arsenal in 2004 - and lifts quotes from legendary managers Graham Taylor and Sir Alex Ferguson.
