Road closed for almost 24 hours after bus collision

A city centre road was closed for almost 24 hours after a bus crash.

Hertfordshire Police was called to St Peters Street in St Albans on Saturday at about 16:00 BST after the incident, involving an Uno bus.

A spokesperson for the force said there had been no major injuries reported, but the collision had caused structural damage to the building.

The road was initially closed in both directions by police officers, but reopened completely by 13:15 on Sunday.

The collision drew in large crowds on Saturday evening as police attended to those involved

A spokesperson for Uno bus confirmed one of its vehicles was involved.

"We're relieved to report there were no serious injuries to any of the public or our driver," they said.

"The safety and wellbeing of our staff and wider community will always be our utmost priority, and we are fully cooperating with Hertfordshire Police as they investigate the incident.

"We have also launched a thorough internal investigation."

On Sunday morning, the southbound carriageway was closed from The Cock pub to the Town Hall before it completely reopened.

Photos taken at the scene in the morning show the police cordon still in place with marked police vehicles parked up.

The bus can be seen still at the scene within the police cordon.

Officers thanked of the public for their patience and co-operation.
