The committee said those who were part of the "hedge veg" community would suit the new role

Alderney's growers, farmers and fishermen are being encouraged to a new group.

The General Services Committee (GSC) has appealed to of the community to apply to serve in the Nature and Agricultural Stakeholder Group.

The group will oversee the progress of the Strategy for Nature and Agriculture, published earlier this year relating to food production and the management of natural resources to meet the objectives of the Island Plan.

Ten people with knowledge of the island's natural environment are wanted to form the group early in 2025.

The committee said successful applicants would likely be:

  • Horticulturalists
  • Growers
  • Farmers
  • Fishermen
  • of the 'hedge veg' community
  • Allotment owners
  • Wellbeing and fitness tutors
  • Schools, nurseries and outdoor activities providers
