Residents urged to back local school projects

More than 20 schools across the region are hoping to secure money for their projects

Residents in Surrey have been urged to a scheme which helps fund the environmental projects of local primary schools.

The Rethink Waste initiative is run by Surrey Environment Partnership (SEP) and aims to encourage households to cut waste.

Residents can sign up and complete online activities for which they win points that can be donated to local schools to secure funds for projects including creating outdoor classrooms and buying litter picking sets.

Hannah Avery, Reigate and Banstead Borough Council's executive member for neighbourhood services, said the scheme was a great way for people to "boost their recycling know-how" and local schools.

At the end of each month between January and March, the two schools with the most points will take home a share of £1,000 for their projects.

More than 20 schools across the region are hoping to secure funds for their projects, including increasing recycling facilities, developing a woodland area, and creating class gardens.
