A "much-loved father" who died after a boat capsized in a reservoir "brought happiness" to everyone he met, his wife has said.

Christopher Packer, 54, has been named by police as the man who fell into the water with his teenage son at Draycote Water, near Rugby, on Thursday afternoon.

His son was quickly rescued by two of the public and was not injured, Warwickshire Police said.

Paying tribute, Mr Packer's wife said he was doing what he had loved the most, "fishing and being with our beautiful son".

"You lived your life in such a good way and brought happiness, joy, and laughter to all you met; you will forever be missed by everyone," she added.

An extensive search operation took place at the 240-hectare (600-acre) reservoir on Thursday, and Mr Packer's body was discovered on Friday evening, officers said.

In a statement issued through police on Tuesday, his wife thanked emergency services and search and rescue teams who she said worked "incredibly hard" in difficult conditions.

"At the worst moment I have ever had to face, I would really like to thank everyone involved for their unbelievable and tireless efforts to help us," she said.

"Firstly, the amazing fishermen who were there that day and able to rescue my son, words cannot ever be enough and thank you doesn't even come close.

"Please know that your actions on that day saved a most precious young life."
