It is useful to be able to describe yourself in Spanish.

Describing yourself and other people

If you want to describe how you look a really useful verb is tener which means to have.

If you want to say I have something, you say tengo.

You can then add a noun and an adjective to describe what you look like. For example:

Tengo el pelo rubio - I have blonde hair

If you want to describe what someone else looks like you can use tiene, which means he/she has. For example:

Ella tiene el pelo castaño - She has brown hair

The 'j' sound

in Spanish a 'j' is pronounced as a 'h'. Here are some examples of how this sound is used:

los ojos - eyes

las orejas - ears

When describing the colour of your eyes, you need to make the adjective into a plural, normally by adding 's' or 'es'.

For example:

• Tengo los ojos azules - I have blue eyes

• Tengo los ojos verdes - I have green eyes

• Tengo los ojos marrones - I have brown eyes
