What will we collect and how we use it?

The BBC is the data controller of information that is collected about you. This means that the BBC decides what your personal information is used for and the ways it is processed.

For Bitesize practice sessions, the personal information that is collected about you is your BBC details and your progression through the Bitesize practice materials. We use a company, Cerego LLC, to operate the technology that runs the Bitesize practice sessions. We permit Cerego LLC to process limited personal information about you. Cerego LLC will process a unique identifier, your timezone and your responses to quizzes. Cerego LLC processes data in the United States with appropriate and adequate safeguards in place to protect your personal information.

The lawful basis for processing your personal information is the BBC’s legitimate interests. We have a commitment under the BBC’s Royal Charter to educate. We think that by using your personal information for Bitesize practice sessions we can give you a better learning experience and help you learn and what you’ve learnt far more effectively. This provides a richer and more engaging experience for our audiences and is not an unreasonable infringement on the rights and freedoms of individual s.

Email and Push Notifications

If you use Bitesize practice sessions, the BBC will email you and send you a push notification when it’s time to review what you’ve learnt. We might send up to one email and push notification a day. There’s an unsubscribe link if you’d like to stop the email reminders, and we won’t keep sending them if you stop reviewing your sessions. You can turn off push notifications at any time using your device settings.

How long we keep your personal information

The BBC will keep your personal data for a period of 2 years – for internal and external audit purposes, unless a longer retention period is required by law. We will delete your personal data after that point.

Sharing your personal information

We won’t share your personal data with any other organisation (apart from Cerego LLC) without letting you know, unless we have to by law.
